NCUA posts financial education materials
July 5, 2007—NCUA has added a “financial education library” section to
the financial education page of its Web site, offering access to five
printable brochures on identity theft, credit reporting and the owning and use
of credit cards.
The new section was announced Tuesday by NCUA Chairman JoAnn Johnson, a member
of the Treasury-led Financial Literacy and Education Commission and head of
the commission’s Web site committee for
MyMoney.gov.
The five brochures on NCUA’s page were created by Tower FCU (Laurel, Md.)
and adapted for the agency’s Web site. Johnson commended the credit union
for its work in financial education and said that online tools, including
NCUA’s and those available at
MyMoney.gov,
“are fine examples of the positive and far-reaching impact technology has in
empowering credit union members with the important tools of financial
education.”
In addition to the financial education brochures, NCUA’s financial education
Web page includes links to materials explaining federal share insurance, other
sources of financial information for consumers and information about the
financial literacy commission.
The financial literacy commission’s consumer site was recently updated to
provide 10 online calculators to help consumers perform a variety of
operations, such as planning a college budget and student loans, home buying,
mortgage comparisons, investing, figuring Social Security earnings and
estimating tax withholding.
NAFCU also makes a number of financial education tools available on this Web
site, including a financial education curriculum for credit unions (linked
below) adapted from the FDIC Money Smart program.

I recently hosted A DAY FOR KIDS
Which was for the benefit of children all around to get their tapes from
Kindervision where the founder Doug Sebastian came from Florida to assist in
interviewing, and I-Dent-A-Kid did the finger printing and pictures, and we did
DNA kits for the kids, as well as bike safety where we donated helmets, a bike
rodeo to learn safety, fire safety, abduction precaution safety, amber
alert information, center for missing and exploited children, and we also had
carnival fun, all free to the public. All radio and television stations
were here and had additions to the fun. We did not reach our goal for
3,000 dollars so we are working to get more money to give to the kids needing
hospital care, and no child is turned away because of an inability to pay.
If you, any of your associates, businesses, or other avenues might be able
to help us reach our goal, please let me know. Checks would be made out to
the
Children’s Miracle Network which is our credit unions and
most all other credit union’s charity of choice.
Your ideas, money, thoughts and input are greatly appreciated by me.
Next year, we hope it is bigger, better, and more donations.
