| Professional Credit Certification The Key to Your Future What is certification? Professional certification is a means of verifying, through a third party, your undergraduate and graduate education, work experience, continuing education efforts, published works, speaking engagements, and involvement in professional organizations. What is the purpose of certification? Certification enables you to make your clients, customers, colleagues, employers and others with whom you do business aware of the knowledge and skill you have invested in your career in the credit industry. The certification designation behind your name, on your letterhead and on the certificate displayed on your wall signifies your expertise in your profession. When someone asks what the certificate or the designation means, you can then tell them about your educational background, work experience, continuing education pursuits, involvement in professional organizations, and leadership skills. Why is certification important to me? Who offers certification? Credit Professionals International (CPI) is the primary organization that offers an excellent certification program to anyone working in the credit industry. Founded in 1930, CPI has long recognized the value of education, experience and leadership skills. It began its Professional Credit Certification program in 1996. How does the certification program work? CPI offers these certifications: Professional Credit Associate (PCA) Professional Credit Specialist (PCS) Professional Credit Executive (PCE) Master Professional Credit Executive (MPCE) Those certified at a lower level can apply to upgrade their certification. All certified professionals must recertify every five years. Applications for certification are reviewed and approved by a CPI leader holding the Master Professional Credit Executive certification. A small fee is charged for processing a certification. Those approved receive a certificate suitable for framing. Who is eligible for certification? Anyone who works in the credit industry is eligible to apply for certification in the program offered by Credit Professionals International. You can become a Certified Credit Professional through CPI's certification program.
Credit Professionals International offers four levels of certification. You receive points based on your education level, your years
of employment in the industry, your credit education efforts, continuing education and participation in credit association
activities.
Levels of Certification:
Professional Credit Associate (PCA): Any combination of units from the scoring guide which total 300 points. $25 fee.
Professional Credit Specialist (PCS): Any combination of units from the scoring guide which total 500 points. $35 fee.
Professional Credit Executive (PCE): Hold position at management or exempt level on one's company, plus any combination of units
from the scoring guide which total 750 points. $45 fee.
Master Professional Credit Executive (MPCE): Must have held position at management or exempt level in one's company for at least
five years, plus any combination of units from the scoring guide which total 1200 points. $55 fee.
QUALIFICATIONS: Work Experience, College Credits & Degrees, Credit &/or Business related workshops & seminars. Participation in
CPI & other Credit Associations. Units are awarded based on immediate past (5) five years.
ELIGIBILITY: Any CPI Member can apply if they have the required number of units. Retired members can qualify for PCA or PCS at
any time. If required positions were held during the last 5 years of employment. Applications for PCE & MPCE will be accepted.
TIME SPAN: Certification is valid for five years and renewable upon payment of the original fee. Your original points are always
retained. You may work toward the next level by submitting the additional points and paying the additional fee.
FEE: The certification fee should be submitted with the personal data forms. Refunds will be made if the forms are incomplete.
